Smart Motorway (M23 J8 to J10) (Highways England Project)
M23 Smart Motorway work (Highways England Project)

This project involves the conversion of the section of the M23 between junctions 8 to 10 to a "smart motorway". The project will run between 2018 and 2020 and involve the conversion of the existing carriageway to an "all lane running" (ALR) smart motorway.
Why is this being done?
To increase capacity by creating an additional lane on both the northbound and southbound sides, improve technology to help manage incidents better and enable more reliable journeys.
Who is doing it?
HIghways England are delivering the project. It is shown here for ease as it will impact on Manor Royal.
How it impacts Manor Royal?
Variable speed limits will be in place and lanes will be narrower during construction. Overnight closures between 10pm and 4am will be necessary at various times throughout the project requiring diversions through and around Manor Royal.
