Cancer is a leading cause of death in underserved countries, where access to quality healthcare is limited and resources are scarce. Patients in these regions often do not receive the necessary screening and treatment, leading to poor health outcomes. This issue is compounded by the lack of funds available to tackle the problem, making it difficult to provide life-saving care to those in need.
The Elekta Foundation is a philanthropic organization inaugurated on 4th February 2022. Since then, it has made great strides in its mission to improve cancer care access in underserved countries such as Rwanda.
This year Elekta at Crawley are taking on an enormous challenge on behalf of the Elekta Foundation. 40 colleagues will cycle from Cornerstone to Amsterdam over 4 days, averaging 100 miles per day.
The purpose is to raise funds for women in Rwanda who are suffering with late stage cervical cancer. These women are often the breadwinners, and if they are unable to work their children are left with no food or other resources. We want to provide them with help and add life to their days, not just days to their life.
