As a certified Carbon Balanced Printer, they demonstrate their commitment to help the World Land Trust (WLT) to save, protect and restore acres of critically threatened habitat. Carbon Balanced print is the first of many steps they are taking towards their carbon neutral goal and it offers a simple, effective solution to create huge benefits for the world we live in.
Carbon balancing is a simple way to reduce the carbon impacts of printed communications by offsetting annual operational emissions. Terrestrial habitats, such as forests, grasslands and wet peatlands contain large volumes of carbon in their biomass and soils. However, these habitats are being destroyed releasing stored carbon into the atmosphere and contributing to between 10 and 20 per cent of global emissions.
The introduction recently of the new, energy-efficient Canon print engines has made the DMS print production more sustainable. These new printers, combined with efficient production processes and responsible business practices, have all contributed to their success, alongside a switch to LED lighting, and more efficient heating via programmable air-conditioning.
